If there is an airport near you in your town and you’re looking for a job then why not apply for Airport job vacancies. Did you know that those sites are the one of the biggest sources for job opportunities?
You should really consider the following facts:
Those jobs have always awkward hours! You would start working either very early in the morning or start later and finish late so there are rarely 9-5 shifts. If you say this is not a problem for you then go ahead! Bear in mind that you could get lucky and find something with excellent working hours.
We can’t say that they do have really great salary packages. In fact they can be the same level or even lower than high street. The majority of retail and restaurant positions are offering minimum national wage which makes it not very attractive for those who expect a well-paid job.
Another down side of working at an airport is that as they take up so much space they are usually outside of the towns, and although public transport is necessary for the customers to arrive at the airport, it is not always reliable very early or late when shifts may start or end so you may have to arrange your own transport to get to work otherwise being late is very likely which won’t look good for you. Of course public transports are available to the airports but this will make your job even harder. Imagine you need to catch the bus or the train every time in the middle of the night while most of town sleeping.
Despite all of above negative points, airport employment is still popular in the UK as the current economic climate is not very bright and it seems will not improve again in near future.
What kind of jobs out there?
Cabin Crew: What would you think if they say you will travel around the world and get paid for it? Sounds good? So instead of paying hundreds or thousands of pounds for these journeys why not become a cabin crew for an airline company? It’s not all easy. As we mentioned before, the odd hours of working can be pretty difficult especially for newly started employees, and training is required and must be updated frequently. Visit airline company’s job sites to search and apply for their flight attendant positions.
Baggage Handler: If you are in a difficult position, perhaps stuck with your job search, no interviews, no replies to your applications then this job can be right for you. It may sound not an ideal position for you however it’s not possible for all of us to have our dream jobs. The majority of people in this kind of employment are men as the job involves heavy lifting and laborious work most of the time, but females can also apply for those vacancies if they think they are fit enough!
You need to have a clean work history. According to the law you will have to provide 5 year’s of work history in order to obtain an airside-pass which will be used to enter to the airside for your work. This can take longer than you think if your previous work places are many and in different locations, or if there are long gaps in between, however you will receive a temporary air-pass which you will use until your permanent clearance comes through.
